Autocheck, how does it work? Mine does`nt work at all...

My car is a rebuilt RS2.

I`ve done alot of fixing after buying it "half done", and now it`s the auto check system`s turn. Almost 100% done with the car`s problems now

The computer display works great. It calculates fuel consumption correct, and everything seems fine.

The Auto Check display, is all black. It never tells me to check brake light, or anything else. Havent seen a single sign of light in it since i bought the car.

So now i`m asking, where to start?
Does this AC display have it`s own controller box and wiring? Or is it connected via the speedometer box, together with the computer?
I havent got a single clue about the technical part of the auto check system, so i need all the info i can get.

For all i know, the display might be broken, but i need some input from someone that knows how this system works..

S2central.net may have some info, but paul is probably the most likely person to have pulled it apart. Also try SJMautotechnik. HTH

S2central is a admin on here, bit of a wiring guru from all accounts.

Have you had a look at the back of the clocks to see if the auto check unit is fitted and if fitted plugged in?

        It looks like this.
        Attached Files
        1990 B3 2.0 80 quattro.
        1992 C4 2.8 Avant quattro
        1994 MTM RS2.
        1998 B5 TDI quattro Sport.
        2000 B5 TQS.

Autocheck and Trip computer are in the same unit. You can't fit one without another. (there is an option of Minichek+Trip computer, but I doubt this is the case on RS2)

If the full original wiring loom was replaced by the RS2 loom, then the autocheck should work. Maybe it's something really easy, like broken blulbs or disconnected wire somewhere.

I`ll pull the dash/speedo out, and take a look. Maybe as you say, it might be a simple problem with a wire or something, since the comp. works great..

I`ll take pics and post here.

Just pulled it.. Nothing to take pics of..

The unit with the AC display screen is mounted, and every possible slot is connected with it`s correct coulored plug/stick.

Maybe i have to test another speedo unit from another RS2, to see if that helps then.. If i can find such a thing..

I got a buddy to come by today, to try his S2 avant dash.. It worked just fine, so now i at least know where the problem is

I opened the box and looked for problems, but nothing to see..
Guess i`ll have to change the autocheck box part..
